Amazon SES

Learn how PushMail can connect with Amazon SES to deliver your emails.

What is Amazon SES

Amazon SES is the short name for Amazon simple email service.
It is the email sending service provided by Amazon in their Amazon Web Services platform.
Currently, sending emails using Amazon SES, is one of the most effective way to send emails. Both cost wise but also thanks to the inbox rate and to their features. They offer the right tools so you can build your sender reputation.
Amazon SES offer two ways to connect to their service and send emails. First one being the traditional SMTP connection. Second one, because sending emails using SMTP is not fast, they also offer a direct API endpoint. Here, email marketing software systems can connect to deliver the emails much faster.

Amazon SES pricing

Amazon SES is one of the most affordable email sending services, they charge $0.10 for each 1000 emails.
Amazon Web Services is free to use for the first year. Of course, various restrictions and limitations apply to the free plan.
You can also host your VPS with Amazon and send your emails with Amazon SES. Doing so, the first 62,000 emails you send every month, are free.

Amazon SES and PushMail

With PushMail, you can use Amazon SES SMTP and/or Amazon SES API to send your emails.
You can use them both at same time if you need to. But you can also use one of them, depending on your exact use case.

Our advice is to use Amazon SES API because it is much faster.
It will help you deliver a higher number of emails in a shorter period of time. It will also handle email bounces and email complaints for you.
It does this by creating a SNS Topic on your Amazon account where all the bounces and complaints will go. PushMail will then subscribe to this topic to actually get notifications. When the topic gets notifications, PushMail gets them too, and it will process them. In Realtime, as they happen.

To make it as easy as possible to connect Amazon SES with PushMail, we have created a step-by-step tutorial.
